When a Death Occurs

Contacting your funeral director…
What needs to be done depends on where your loved one passes.  When death takes place in a hospital or nursing facility, the staff will assist you by contacting your Funeral Director. When death takes place at home under a doctor’s care, you may call the Funeral Director directly.  We always suggest that if you are alone, consult with a relative, clergy or close friend to help you at this most emotional time.

Notifying friends and family…
We would suggest in notifying friends and relatives that you make a phone call to a few people and ask their help in contacting specific people. In doing so, you will find people are more than happy to be helpful and the burden of informing others of your loss isn’t all left to you alone.

Preparing the information for the Funeral Director….
The assistance by you or another family member will be needed to complete the death certificate. Our staff of caring funeral directors will assist you at any hour with your questions regarding the following items that are needed:

  • Full name of Deceased
  • Date of Birth
  • Birthplace, City and State
  • Spouse name (maiden) marital status
  • Social Security Number
  • Legal Residence
  • Education
  • Military Information and discharge papers
  • Parents full names (maiden)
  • Occupation
  • Race
  • Burial or Cremation
  • Death Notice and Obituary (however, we will assist you in preparing these)
  • Newspapers City and State
  • Full set of clothing, including undergarments and stockings, but shoes are not necessary unless requested

Schedule an arrangement conference with your funeral director…
Our funeral directors will meet with you at your home or here at our offices to make arrangements. We recommend that in scheduling an arrangement conference, that you have a relative, clergy or close friend accompany you, when possible.
