Jerri Sawyer Shales, born June,10, 1947 to Bob and Ruth Sawyer was the oldest of two children and is survived by her sister Toni of Orange, Ct., her husband Marv, his sister and her husband Caryl and Jim Dufour, Jerri’s sister in law Ruth Shales, nieces Sarah and Priscilla, and Suzan Lesmerises, nephews John and Stephen Shales, Dan Sweimler and 16 grandnieces and nephews. She returned to her heavenly home on May 11,2018 from a protracted bout with Alzheimer. Jerri and her husband Marv, moved to Naples from Ridgefield, Ct., in 1999 after singing at a wedding at First Baptist church and deciding it was the kind of town they would like to spend the second half of their life together in. Jerri graduated from Berkshire Christian college and was included in that year’s edition of who’s who in America. She and Marv met at a Billy Graham crusade in Tulsa Okla. where she was an advance planner/secretary for the Leighton Ford crusades. They married about 9 months later after completing her final crusade in Youngstown, Oh. Her career involved teaching at Pensacola Christian, being an advance representative for the Billy Graham organization working for Leighton Ford ministries, marketing mgr. for Weston woods studios, an internationally known childrens audio visual marketing company in which she traveled nationally speaking at conferences… in Naples she was a realtor and worked for Hunt and John R. Wood real estate companies until retiring about 2007. She loved singing in the First Baptist choir, and in the Living Christmas tree which she participated in for 10 years. She was the go-to real estate agent for several years for finding homes for several of the Philharmonic orchestra performers and loved the Philharmonic. She enjoyed hosting Christmas parties in our home and we established a home bible study/book group for a small nondenominational group for 15 years. She enjoyed jet skiing with friends, eating out, shopping, traveling to England, France, Germany, Israel, Italy and many beautiful parks and historic sites all over America.
She collated and made more efficient the evangelical “Faith Outreach” program of First Baptist church for years, before having a mini stroke. In 2015, she and her husband Marv moved into the Arlington independent living facility in Lely and have made many new friends until having to move to memory care after falling and fracturing her pelvis…where she continued to maintain her smile even though losing her language ability.
Anyone who knew her loved her warm charm, smile, and Christian charity. She will be sorely missed but will be rejoicing in her Heavenly home. Anyone wishing to donate to her memory may do so to The First Baptist church ministry to seniors or Samaritans Purse, Boone, N.C.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of First Baptist church,3000 Orange Blossom dr., Naples, Fl, on May 18th @ 10 AM.
