William "Skip" Fordon
William Frederick “Skip” Fordon, Jr. was 87 years old when he passed away peacefully in his home in Naples, Florida on June 10, 2018.
Born in Detroit, MI in 1930 to Adria and Fred Fordon where his father founded a prominent General Contracting business. Alongside his father and brother, David, they went on to build many of the Detroit area municipal and commercial buildings. Skip served as president of the Association of General Contractors of America and went on to establish his own development company. Skip attended Tri-State College of Engineering prior to serving in The United States Air Force for four years, serving 3 ½ years as a Flight Engineer while stationed in England.
Skip married Natalie Bailey in 1955. He built their first home in Bloomfield Hills, MI where they started their family. He later moved his family to Birmingham, MI. Natalie and Skip moved back to their home town of St. Clair, MI in 1983 where they resided until moving to Vanderbilt Country Club in Naples, FL. Skip and Natalie were members of the Congressional Church in St. Clair, where they were married in 1955.
His hobbies included sailing, golfing, and hunting, and most of all, Skip enjoyed his many relationships with extended families, friends and acquaintances along his life’s journey. He was part owner of the St. Clair Country Club and a member of the the Sarnia Yacht Club for many years, sharing the sailing experience of racing with his sons on Lake Huron and cruising Georgian Bay.
Skip is survived by his wife Natalie, sons and daughter-in-laws: Fred, Greg (Lynn), John (Katie), Grandsons: Matthew, Joe, Gregory, Marshall, Andrew and Grant. He enjoyed following the journeys of his 6 grandsons as well as sharing his life experiences, especially if they related to something humorous.
A memorial for friends and family will be held in the near future.
