James William Green of Alva, Fl passed away on Sept 5, 2018. Jim was born in Butler, Pa on November 23, 1941 to Alice and Simon Peter Green. He had one sister, Mary Alice, whom he cherished.
Jim graduated from Notre Dame University with a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering. After college he moved to Annapolis, Md, where he worked for the NSA and several different defense contractors. Later, he went into business for himself building houses as a General Contractor.
While in Maryland Jim developed a love of boating that lasted the rest of his life. He cruised the Inter-coastal Waterway from Maryland to Florida several times, which led him to discover Alva. Later, he spent years living on a trawler, cruising from island to island in the Caribbean.
In Alva Jim continued his real estate passion by developing land and starting a realty company. He also ran several businesses, including a daycare where he enjoyed his time surrounded by children. He was active at the St Vincent de Paul church, Rotary, The Knights of Columbus and several planning and development boards.
Those who knew Jim admired his kindness, his humor and his desire to help others. To know him was to love him. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Sally Johnson, his sons David and Mick, and his grandson Jake.
At Jim's request there will be no funeral services, just a simple scattering of ashes near the Caloosahatchee River that he loved. Those wishing to make donations could do so to Hospice, which gave much comfort to Jim and his family. Better yet, those who wish to honor Jim could do so by helping others, and being kind to strangers.
