Obituary for Joan Streidl Gardner

Joan Streidl Gardner
It is with profound sadness we are announcing that “The Most Amazing” Joan Streidl Gardner, at only 64 years young, left us on May 11th, 2018.

She will be forever missed for her golden smile and compassionate nature. She was smart, opinionated, outspoken, high valued, liberal and irreverent all in one…much like her mother. Her grammar was perfect which makes me nervous as I write this wondering where all the commas should go.

Family was paramount for Joan, born sixth in the line of eight to John and Phyllis Streidl of Plainwell, MI into as close and supportive a family as there ever can be.

Joan is survived by her husband of 30 years, Fred, as well as the apples of her eye, their sons William (married to Rochelle) and Benjamin. She absolutely adored being a mother in every way and cherished her sons and her new daughter in law.

Beyond family Joan collected many lifelong friends at each stage of her life: Plainwell High School, Western Michigan University, and Truffles Restaurant in Naples, FL to name a few. Thankfully, she was able to visit with and share some laughs with many of these friends during these past six months.

Joan was always so grateful for any travel or cultural opportunity. She loved a good walk in the Florida sunshine or a good book, but perhaps she was the most content when she had a bowl of popcorn, and certainly when she had a cookie or a slice of chocolate cake. Unfortunately for a cake lover Joan was a Type 1 Diabetic for 30 years, never once complaining about the daily maintenance that she incurred…eventually however it was an out of the blue seizure followed by the shocking diagnosis of a Glioblastoma brain tumor that rocked her world. We all are heartbroken to be without Joan.

We will be holding a celebration of life at The Garden of Hope and Courage on June 12th at 6:00 pm for an opportunity to share some memories, some laughs, some tears…and of course some cookies and popcorn.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Garden of Hope and Courage, 2390 Tamiami Trial North Suite 108, Naples, FL 34103
